Tic Tac Toe Due Thursday

Flowers for Algernon
Pages 1-76 (Progress Reports 1-10)
Tic Tac Toe
Choose three activities in a Tic-Tac-Toe pattern to complete that reflect deeply on the reading.  Due Thursday, May 19 (Reading).

Write the story in the most compelling way you can on paper the size of a business card.
Draw a web that shows how all of the important characters (Miss Kinnian, Doctor Strauss, Nemur, Gimpy, Mr. Donner, Donner’s Bakery guys) relate to Charlie Gordon.  Along each connecting line, write words that explain how the main character feels about that character.
Write a song or rap from the perspective of Charlie Gordon.
Rhyming Dictionary
Pick two of the main characters in the novel. For each, create a personal fortune cookie message that will help him/her overcome one major conflict in the novel. Be sure your words sound sufficiently philosophical while, at the same time, accurately reflecting the major conflict and each character’s possible choices of action. Write a paragraphed explanation of your sayings. Support your choices with specific, text-based details from the book
httHere are some fortunes--- explore and see what fits for your character.
Create an Animoto video (animoto.com) that displays Charlie’s life before and after the surgery.  If you would like to do this, I have an educator code for you so that you can make free videos that are longer than 30 seconds.

As in the movies, take what seems the most compelling image(s) and create a billboard advertising the book on 8.5*11 paper.  Use color, an image, a title, and a few keywords.

Design a bumper sticker that will give the world some good advice. Select one main theme from your story and rewrite it into a catchy phrase.  Create an eye-catching, colorful, bumper sticker with which to display your message. Match color, font, and image design to both the plot and the theme of the book. Finally, write a paragraphed explanation of your choices.
Your bumper sticker should be 4 ¼” x 11” long. In other words, cut a piece of paper lengthwise and use one section for your sticker.

Write and design a postcard to a friend, the author, or to a character about this book.
Translate the 10 progress reports into storyboards and cartoons; draw the most important scene in the report and explain its importance and action.

  1. Question: You might not get this till Thursday, but just in case you don't and get it today, I was wondering: for the web, can I do non-main characters like Norma and Matt and Rose and Harriet?

  2. I gotta go to school,
I gotta show them I'm not a fool,
'Cause Miss Kinnian's been teaching me
That I can be everything I wanna be,
But I still have lots to learn,
I still have friends to earn,
Like the guys at the bakery,
Turns out they don't really like me,
    And ever since the operation,
I have been causing them such aggitation,
All I wanted was to to be smart,
But maybe not even that will help me win Alice's heart,
All my life I've been alone.
