Wk 2: Journal Response Option 8

  1. What I learned from The Diary of Anne Frank

  1. I have learned a lot from the Diary of Anne Frank one thing that is really important that I learned is the situation about hiding. I didn’t know much about the holocaust until we started learning about this book. Hiding is a very serious situation and one loud noise could put you in severe danger of you and the people around you. Hiding was a scary situation for Jews. Millions of Jews were being killed and some Jewish people would go into hiding to prevent being killed or harmed. I have learned that hiding isn’t just staying in one place for one day. Hiding can be going on for almost 2 years you would never know. This is what I learned about from the Diary of Anne Frank.

  2. I've heard Anne Frank's story many times. each time I have learned something diffrent. This time around I learned that Anne and her family weren't alone. I never knew that another family live with them. I also learned that the secret anex wasn't a small, one room area. I always thought they had to be sitting down all day and they could barely breath because of the limited space. But i guess it was kind of like that considering there were eight people living there.
I've learned about the holocost before. And every time I learn about a diffrent survivor's story, it always makes me angry to know how these people suffered. I relearn that every time.

  3. I have learned a lot from The Diary of Anne Frank. Before reading the book, all I really knew about the holocaust was that it was run by Hitler and the Nazi’s killed many Jews. The background information that we read about before starting the book really opened my eyes to the tragedy that had occurred. Reading what Anne had written was truly amazing. Not only did I learn many interesting facts, but I got to see what a girl my age was thinking and going through during this horrible time. It made me realize that even though we complain a lot about our lives, there are always worse things that can happen to you. It makes me thing, I have a “temper tantrum” (as my mom calls it) over not being able to hang out with my friend, and Anne and her family were stuck in an attic for over a year, starving and scared. Reading the book really put things in perspective for me.

  4. From The Diary of Anne Frank, i learned about what it was like in hiding for some families. They had limited food, couldn't make noise, couldn't go outside, and had to live in tight living quarters. These times were harsh and they always had to be careful and scared about being caught.

  5. This is my response:
What I learned from the diary of anne frank is that at the end of the play, the nazis find them and they get captured. I also learned that anne has changed at the hanukah celebration when she was giving gifts to everyone one and making their day special

  6. What I learned from the diary of Anne Frank...

I learned that change is a good thing. When reading Anne Frank beginning to end, you realize how much the characters change overtime from the beginning of the war to the end of their lives. Anne changed for Peter, and it really changed her life. Now she has somebody to keep her company. Peter also changed his views on Anne. He doesn't see her as an obnoxious child anymore. Instead, he sees her as a grown woman who can act her age. Mr. and Mrs. Frank's relationship with the VanDaans have grown better with time. There is definitely less fighting and everyone has learned to forgive. Margot is still the same quiet person. Even though she didn't show how she changed in public, she gave better advice to her little sister and became more involved with her.

  7. If there is one thing I learned from Anne Frank,it is that no one can be contained without being irritable or going crazy. It's like cabin fever, where if you stay in one place with the same people or in the same room or house with the same conditions, you will get anxious with nothing to do. In the Secret Annex, there was constant arguing and bickering that eventually led to threats of violence and abandonment. I can also relate this to a scene in Mythbusters, when they were testing out the idea of cabin fever and isolation. It yielded very similar results. The people who participated became shells of their former selves, like when Mrs. Frank snapped and ripped into the Vaan Daans. Also, despite the rude and selfish nature of Mr. Vaan Daan, I don’t think he would steal food unless he was under these stressful conditions. That is the thing I noticed first, and it is in my opinion one of the most important lessons to be learned.

  8. What I learned from The Diary of Anne Frank is to not take things for granted. We go on living our lives with what we call "struggles" when most of us can't even fathom having to go through what people of the Holocaust went through. It's so easy, especially in this day and age, to get wrapped up in our own material things, never to step back and realize jut how lucky we really are. Here a lot of us are, making Christmas list with items like iPods and laptops and fancy clothes, when the people in the Secret Annex barely had enough food each day. When I really think about it, I feel so selfish and it makes me wish I could sort of change the way things were. It also made me feel so lucky to live in America in the twenty first century. The Diary of Anne Frank really opened my eyes to just how lucky I am.

  9. I learned a lot from The Diary of Anne Frank. For one thing, I learned the true scarcity of food while being in hiding. You had to eat the same thing over and over almost every day. I could never do that. Another thing that I learned was what the conflicts were like in the Secret Annex. Anne dealt with conflicts with herself, and there were also conflicts between the others. There were constant conflicts going around at the Secret Annex.

  10. From the Diary of Anne Frank i learned that not everyone dies from the Holucost. Mr. Frank was still alive at the end. I also learned that people can go into hiding because I didn't know what people could go into hiding, i thought they come to you house and just take you. I didn't have much information on this event, but I think i know a little something about it now.
