  1. Lily's last name and family are irrelevant because normally people are identified that way because they're connected to their families, but Lily's only family member doesn't take care of her, and Rosaleen isn't in her family. Francis' name also didn't give him an identity because he had no relatives, and nobody needed to identify him with a family because his face was also covered up. Neither of them need to have anything to do with their real families, so that can't be used to identify them if it no longer affects their lives. Lily says that "'Daddy' never fit [T. Ray]", meaning that she couldn't even refer to him as her father because he treated her so badly, and he was no more special or better than a stranger.

  2. yes it does because she has lost her mother and her dad treats her badly. She is for the most part positive and she sounds pretty happy. She should stay that way.

Francis is unhappy and gloomy and lily is positive and at some parts gloomy as well. I think that lily is more happy with life than francis

  3. Lily has a family and a full name. She has an identity eventhough her past is a bit blurred much like Francis's. I'm not surprised by her personality because her father, T-Ray is not very carring and her mother was thought supposedly to be killed by Lily on accident. Her spirits have not been let up, so I still think she is in a bit shock of the situation she's in. After loosing a loved one, many people struggle to cope with the situations. Francis's parents passed away a long time ago, his personality became a bit more dull which lead him to make the decision of joinning the army and have a near death experience. I think Lily might be in a similar situation.

  4. Lily's apperence and personality does not suprise me. She does not have a mother and you can tell from her looks. Her hair looks unbrushed. Her clothes are ugly, old, and ratty. They have rips and wholes in them and the kids at school make fun of her. She is self conscience in everyway because she doesnt have anyone to tell her that she looks pretty. She doesn't have many friends to turn to either. in a way she is like Francis from the book heroes. He too doesn't really have a family and he doesnt have any friends to turn to either. He is als self conscience about his apperence. He doesn't have anyone to tell him he looks handsome either. They are alike. However, its not really their fault. Their circumstances made them this way.

  6. lilly surprised me as well. it would seem that how bad her life is would make her a much deeper gloommier person. but she is not. she just wants to have fun like her peers. but cannot because her father holds her back and doesn't let her do anything. i would hate to have a father and or a mother like that. even though they barley let me do things i would like, they let me do some. Always having someone obtain you from learning, reading or going to school, shouldn't be a part of your life.

  7. Based on what I've read so far Lily's personality and and outlook deoesnt surprize me. She hasn't been raised in a decent household and doesn't have a mother which I can only imagine is the toughest thing for a teenage girl to go through. And her father is a horrible influence on her. It has been proven that kids from a young age are influenced by their parents actions. T-Ray yells and screams and curses, I have noticed that Lily yells and is starting to curse. Yes she has the same last name as her father but that doesn't reflect anything about her. Francis lost his mother and father when he was young and had no other choice but to go and live with his uncle. When he got back from the war he wanted to keep his identity a secret. Lily can relate to this because if people knew that she had a father like T-Ray, I would think that she wouldd NOT want people to know that she's related to this mean and abusive man. Also, the two characters have problems with their identities. They don't want people to know who they are for obvious reasons. And more than half the time, I can't blame either one of them.

  8. Lily has a family and a name, but that does not define her identity and who she is. Lily's personality and outlook does surprise me. Considering her hard life and the conditions she is living in. Lily is a very vibrant and lovely child. She loves life, and she loves living it to the fullest, but her father holds her back from anything she has ever wanted to do. Her family does not define her at all. She hates her father and she loves her mother dearly to this day. But her father...he isn't seen as a father to Lily. She calls him by his name, T.Ray instead of "daddy". Lily is not that stubborn, hard-headed, hater that is her father. "my daddy-who I called T.Ray because "daddy" never fit him-"
This story related to Heroes in many different ways. Francis Cassavant also has a name and an identity, just like Lily. Also like Lily, Francis does not want to reveal his secret identity. Lily is ashamed of her father and her life. In a way, so is Francis, the way it seems like he is ashamed of recieving a silver star for his "heroic actions" during the war. Also, Francis' family is all dead. Lily's Mom is dead and so is Fracis'. It is ironic how Lily accidentally killed her Mother, when Francis accidentally saved all of the men in his platoon.

  9. No, Lily’s personality and outlook does not surprise me based on her circumstance in life. With her lonesome life, living in a house with and abusive gather and just one other resident, I would expect her to be extremely independent and expressive in independent activities like writing, which Lily does. She explains that she doesn’t have many friends, or any, at school and the only other living, accompanying creature besides Rosaleen are the bees in Lily’s room. Every night she said she watches them and feels safe around them because she knows that by now they could have chosen to sting her to death, but they haven’t.
Francis Cassavant is very similar to Lily. They both eventually lose their names and identities to hide from other people. Francis becomes Raymond Baumont and Lily becomes Lily Williams. Both of their recently found identities change them entirely as if they actually have become new people. Lily finds a new household to live with and takes part in a new honey-making internship.

  10. Yes Lily does has an odd personality if she grew up that way. I would expect her to be shy and basically a hermit. She is a lot more brave and outgoing than most people would have been raised that way. The way she changes her name reminds me of the way Francis does when he goes into the apartment. Both of them change their name when moving into a new place. Its amazingly similar. They both reacted the same way when they didnt want people to know who they were.

  11. Lily's last and first name give her an identity, but who she really is surprises me. She has a fairly sad life. Her mother died, which she killed her by accident. Lily's dad is very hard on her. But Lily has very good dreams in what she wants to become when she gets older. She wants to become a writer. So what her life is surprises me because she is not that person. Her identity is much like Francis Cassavant's identity. They both had bad lives, but had big dreams, Lily's dream is to become a writer. Francis' dream was to love Nicole. That is how their lives and identities were similar.

  12. Lily's personality does surprise me. When her mother died she basically lost everything she had ever wanted. As a girl, she definitely needs a mother. The way that she ran away, and bailed Rosaleen out of jail surprised me quite a lot. How does she know how to handle life on her own while she lives with a father that does not care the least bit about her? After having no family i thought Lily would be very quiet. As i read on, i found out that she is extremely brave. She really had no one to teach her life lessons. Lily is very much like Francis. Both of them have basically no family, yet are still so brave. Francis went to war and jumped on a grenade. Lily ran away from her father who is very strict. They have the same problems in life and have the same personality.

  13. Lily may have a last name (Owens), but it doesn't give her much of an identity. She may also have a family, but that doesn't give her much either. Lily’s personality and outlook does surprise me considering the circumstances she has to deal with. Lily has a very vibrant personality and loves life very much. She has to deal with an extreme amount of sadness and pressure. She loves her life even though it is extremely depressing. She has a father, but doesn’t consider him as a father. In the book she even states “my daddy-who I called T.Ray because "daddy" never fit him-." Her family doesn’t define her at all.
Francis Joseph Cassavant, from the book Heroes, is in the same situation as Lily, but possibly worse. He has no family what so ever. He doesn’t have a brother, a mother, a sister, a father, grandparents, nothing. He is extreamly lonely in life and has no one to talk to. He sort of has no friends either. He has a last name, but no family to go along with it.

  14. Lilly's name and family do not define her life. She loves life, and always wants to have fun. T.Ray though, is always a burdon to her and tells her what to do. I feel like Lilly's family is holding her back from living her life to the fullest. On the other hand, Fancis Cassavant's family were all dead and he had nobody. Normally this would make someone very sad and lonely, and this was no different. Francis was so deppressed he wanted to kill himself. His ourlook on life was very different from Lilly's

  15. The main character in the secret life of bee's, Lily has a last name (Owens), but it doesn't give her much of an identity. She also has a family, but that doesn't say much about her identity either. Lily's personality and outlook surprises me because the terrible circumstances of her life thus far, especially with her family. She has to live with the fact that she killed her mother and her father absolutely hates her, but she still stays somewhat positive that it will get better. She is a very curious and outgoing person, but other people living with what she has gone through would be very anti-social. Francis Cassavant, on the other hand, has had a simaler life, but both Lily and Francis went through a very traumatic experience. He wanted to take his life by going to war, and she wants to run away from her previous life to a new one away from her past memories. Maybe Lily will go back to her old life like Francis did.

  16. her personality and outlook does not surprise me because she has been going through so much trouble with T-Ray. Also she has been wanting to see her mom for so long, so that cause her personality to change too.

Sorry i dont understand the second bullet....maybe i you can help in class
    Thank you

  17. Lily has the last name, Owens, and she has her family, or rather her father T. Ray but that does not give her her identity. What makes her who she is, is her personality and her looks. Just like Francis Cassavant, he had family somewhere in Canada and he had his name. But that is not what gave him his identity. He had more than one identity for example, a tenant, a veteran, and he also went by his dead brothers name. Lily's identity is still unknown to her, and as she travels with Rosaleen and settles with the month sisters she starts to learn who she really is.

  18. I think Lily's personality is a big circumstance because she doesn't want the Boatwright's to find out about her past if T-Ray comes looking for her. Her outlook is a bit better because her alias won't let T-Ray find her when he asks for a Lily Owens.

Francis had a similar predicament because he wanted to end his life but he couldn't kill himself because he didn't want to disgrace his family's name. So he signed himself up to go to war, thinking it would be easy to die. So he jumped on the grenade thinking he'll instantly die. Instead, he got his face blown off and lived.

  19. Lily Owens, by all normal standards, has an extremely tough life. She has a full name, yes, but it doesn’t mean anything to her. She also has a father, but he doesn’t support her, or care for her at all. I am surprised by the way that Lily acts. Even though she has such a horrible life, she still has a somewhat happy personality. Lily didn’t give up on life. She wants to do normal things, like have sleepovers with girls in her class. Lily reads and is a skilled writer. I think that even though Lily doesn’t have the best outlook on life, it could always be worse. Lily could be depressed and think that she had nobody that loved her and no reason to live, but she isn’t like that.
Francis Cassavant, from Heroes has no true identity. He didn’t have any family, they had all passed away. His last name meant nothing because he had nobody to connect it with. On top of that, his face was covered up and deformed. None of his friends recognized him. Francis even went to the point where he made up a fake name because he didn’t WANT anybody to know who he was. It was to a point where the old Francis was basically gone forever, with nobody in the world left to identify him as who he used to be.

  20. Even though Lily has a family, she doesn't really have any ownership of her identity. Francis Cassavant of Heroes, doesn't really have much of an identity. He has no family, and his face is gone. Lily's personality does not surprise me because T. Ray is not a lovely parent and her mother isn't around. So Lily doesn't really have much of a family except for Rosaleen and the Boatwright sisters so she has trouble coping. Since it's so hard for Lily, she runs away from her home. Francis's parents died when he was young so he had problems coping too. So he ran away. He didn't run away from home like Lily but he ran away from himself and tried to kill himself to run away from reality.
