I have question i dont really remember when august was called candy or other stuff. And who is the kidd or what is is it mean.I can only say that if she is candy, maybe it meant she is nice kind like to tell story.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few foods and candy the Lily referred to when first describing. She never uses food to reference anybody else, however. There must be something about August that as soon as Lily saw her , she thought of different kinds of food and candy. As written on page 71 & 72, August was "..almond-buttery with sweat and sun, her face corrugated with a thousand caramel wrinkles and her hair looking floor dusted..." I think this means that she was sweaty, but the sun glistened off her tan skin, giving it an almond-buttery look. Also, the caramel wrinkles were references to her tan skin forming wrinkles.
ReplyDeleteI can describe my cousin, Amanda, using food. She reminds me of a Hershey kiss because she is young and small, but she is so sweet. But, she can also be a bit of a sour patch because she can be "sour" at times, but she will always return to being sweet.
"I looked back at her, and she was staring at me with her ginger-cake eyes." August is typically descibed using sweets and cakes, because in reality she's a generally sweet person. "She was almond-buttery with sweat and sun, her face corrugated with a thousand carmel wrinkles and her hair looking flour dusted-." All the words used to describe her are like those you'd find in a bakery.
ReplyDeleteMy grandpa reminds me of a lollipop. An odd food yes, but it's because he's one of the sweetest things you can find. Sweet, but not at all soft. He suffered from a stroke but he just keeps on going, his own jolly self. He well known, there isn't one person in Ireland who doesn't know him or a relative to him. If you mention a lollipop to someone they'll know excactly what your talking about. He takes a very long time to finish, at the age of 83. He just keeps going. He's the lollipop that will never be broken.
Sue Monk Kidd uses food and candy to describe August Boatwrite. "She was almond-buttery with sweat and sun, her face corrugated with a thousand caramel wrinkles and her hair looking flour dusted, but the rest of her seemed decades younger." This compared August's skin to caramel and her hair white and powdery as if flour was pattd on it.
ReplyDeleteI can compare my friend Edith to food. Her fiery red hair is like a red hot just before bieng eaten. Her pale skin is like a potato freshly peeled. Tht is my friend Edith.
i would describe August as a Smartie because she is such a sweet woman.

Foods that can be used to described August is apple pie. For one thing it is my favorite desert, and i think this is the most adequate food to describe August Boatwright. Apple pie is can be sweet and pleasant. It tastes good cold or warm. It brings out the sweeter side of the desert when warmed, though. Someone who i can describe with food is my dad. He is like a filet mignon. He the best dad i know. He has a good reputaion. He has good morale values. He is just like the mignon. He is like that because the filet mignon is the clean, juicy , best part of the meat, and that is what my dad is to me.

ReplyDeleteThere are many ways that you could describe August, even with food. What I would use, as food to describe August is any type of sweet candy. Because she welcomed Lilly and Rosaleen into her house with open arms. And she doesn't even question whats Lilly's back round information or even Rosaleen's as well. I would also describe her as steak. Because she is very rough and a tough worker as well. Because she basically is running all of the bee farms that her and her two other sisters as well. She is a very hard worker as well. Those are two examples of food I would describe August as.

ReplyDeleteMy Dad has potato colored skin. His eyes are colored the brown spots on bananas. His black curly fry hair has a salt and pepper look to it.
In The Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd, the author of the novel, describes August Boatwright with images of food and candy. “She was almond-buttery with sweat and sun, her face corrugated with a thousand caramel wrinkles and her hair looking flour dusted, but the rest of her seemed decades younger.” This is a quote from the novel that is an example of when Kidd describes august with food and candy. She describes her with the food of almonds and dusted flour. She also compares her to the sweet candy of caramel. These are definitely good foods and candy to describe August Boatwright.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to describe a person with food I would chose my sister. I would compare her to the candy of Sour Patch Kids. In the commercials for the sour patch kids it says, “First they’re sour, then they’re sweet.” This really reminds me of my older sister, Paige. This is because sometimes my sister can be nice and other times completely cruel. She can be so nice then all of a sudden ‘sour.’ These are reasons to why I would compare my sister to the candy of Sour Patch Kids.
August is like an apple. An apple has lovely streaks of color and is as hard as rock on the outside and on the inside it is delicious and can be damaged easily. August is like an apple because she is strong and beautiful on the outside, and on the inside she is sweet and sensitive.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor can be described as a sweet treat. She is like cotton candy. Cotton candy is very bright! Once it touches any moisture it begins to dissolve immediately. My neighbor is one of the nicest, sweetest people I know. She can “dissolve” into any Broadway play she watches. She becomes so enthusiastic about plays that there’s no way in distracting her from watching them.
A friend that i can describe using food is gum. My friend just always have gum and he kind of smells like gum. He is the person i always look for gum. This sounds bad too but he always has korean food. All the time. He is the man i look if i am hungry and he always gives it to you. He is a nice kid too. He reminds me of August becasue he always has food
ReplyDeleteWhen Lily first sees August, she uses many food items to describe her. In doing this, Lily gave me a different kind of view, almost more accurate then if she regularly described her. By using food, the description of August was a little bit easier to visualize. Lily says, "She was almond-buttery with sweat and sun, her face corrugated with a thousand caramel wrinkles and her hair looking flour dusted, but the rest of her seemed decades younger." The author utilized a wide range of foods used in all different kinds of cooking and gave me an idea of a few of August's features, her skin color, and her hair.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who can also be described vaguely but accurately using food. His skin is as pale as a piece of white toast, but if you put him in an over, he wouldn't have the same browning effect. His eyes are blue jelly beans, and his head round like a pancake. His arms are thin and wavy like strips of bacon, his nose pointy like a carrot. Lastly, his hair was golden brown like french fries linked together into a net, and his cheeks are rosy red like shiny apples.
August Boatwright can be called well honey! She can be called honey because honey is sweet and it is something that she makes. August is also honey because she can be put into any situation but adjust like honey when put into tea or other things. August can be adjusted to a situation when everything is going terribly but still be able to survive. August is a very sweet person and is like a second mother to all the people and is very kind.
ReplyDelete---->If I were to describe another person with a sweet or type of food it would be an orange to my friend because she is like an orange. She is hard to peel and is needed some effort to peel but on the inside you find somthing very sweet and kind like an orange. But somtimes when you peel an orange it turns sour and becomes not so fun. She can be like that, awesome and fun to be around when she's sweet but not so sweet when shes sour.
