  1. So far, throughout the book Lily seems to be a bit of a loner, so it comes as no surprise to the reader that she loves reading and writing—independent activities. To Lily reading and writing is very important. It is very important to her because she doesn’t have any friends to talk and vent to and it sort of fills that empty space. It is also somewhere where she can vent instead of a mother, because she unfortunately lost hers at a young age. “You could be a professor or a writer with actual books to your credit.” Mrs. Henry told Lily. Even though Lily never thought that way, she told everyone that she already had her profession picked out, and she was going to stick to it until Mrs. Henry changed her mind. Lily took Mrs. Henry’s opinion to heart and decided to drop the idea of going to beauty school, she was much too intelligent for that.
The power of reading and writing for the Freedom Writers was so powerful. It was really important to them because they too needed someone to write to, but had nobody, so they just vented in a “diary”. Writing is a very powerful thing and can be used for good and bad, but in this case it was used for good because they needed to get all their bad feelings out and start fresh. Writing let them do that. When I was younger I used to write in a diary. I would write everything that happened. Even when I went to California in 2nd grade for spring break, my teacher made me keep a diary. Even though I didn’t like doing it so much, I had too and it also helped me let out all my exciting feeling and share my experience with someone else.

  2. Lily is a little bit of a loner. She tends to read and write alot. She wants to write a story someday. it comes as no suprise to me because her dad also known as T.ray doesn't believe in the concepts of slumber parties and other things. When she reads it makes her feel like she actually knows. She also reads so she can get away of things for a while.
When some one reads or writes it helps them show who they really are.You might think that by reading doesn't show who someone is but the type of the book they pick can help show who they are. When some one writes it's a way that helps them be them self and also tell about them selves. Many authors write books about their life, most of the time with other characters. It really helps someone be who they are and it's a way to help get things out.

  3. the reason it is no suprise is because she is not aloud to try out for sports and or go to parties sleep overs. beacuse her father T.ray is very mean and harsh.he is strong with attitude and very strict and he also sometimes has no regard for her.

  4. reading and writing are very impotant lily its something she really enjoys bescides there is really nothing she can like. Her dad tray is preety much a control freak and doessnt care about what lily wants. so the reading and writitng kinda of frees her , free her mind and there are no restrictions. As i just said it frees all of the people and can just lose their mind in their writeing.

  5. Lily likes to go to libery but her father Tray does not let her go to libery bicousse hee thinks it is not for girs.I am guesting in this story she is wery smart but lonly.Anne Frank wrote about her life and life of her family and she writes all the conflics so it was really important to write and read something. Francis was not that educated, but it was about war and about him and how he loved Nicole.

  6. Lily seems to be a bit of a loner, so it comes as no surprise to the reader that she loves reading and writing--independent activities. Reading and writing is very important thus far in this novel because Lily is extremely board and pretty much has no life. Lily has no friends because her father, T-Ray won’t buy her any clothing to wear to school. The children in her school won’t talk to her than because she wears the same clothes over and over again. T-Ray won’t let her do anything fun with her life. She has no one to go to with her thoughts because her mother has passed away. She has to get her thoughts and feelings out of her one way or another, so she can turn to writing.
In the movie Freedom Writers the students who have dealt with gangs in their past have had so much thoughts bundled up inside of them. That resulted in violent activities. The students went to a school and met this teacher, Ms. Gruwell who changed their life for the better. She was big on writing and reading. She made the students write in a diary the thoughts they has in their brains, but wasn’t able to talk about. She gave them assignments to write about their feelings in the journal every night. She would read the entries if they allowed her to. When the students took all of their emotions out, they felt better. They were not as violent and ended up getting a career and education. They also got along with people more and became friends with people outside of their gangs.

  7. Reading and writing is important thus far in this novel because Rosaleen reads and dreams of what she can do. It helps her with her self esteem becuase at school she has no one to talk to, she has no freinds at school. Reading and writingis important in Anne Frank becuase Anne keep a diary to help like she has someone to talk to.

  8. Lily loves to read and write. She has a hard life. She is loneley. So she reads and writes. She does things she likes to do to escape her problems. The importance of reading and writing thus far is that she can pursue her dream of becoming a great writer. This is much like freedom writers. The students came from bad lives. Most of them. So they wrote to let out their emotions and to pursue their dreams. This is the importance of reading and writng thus far in the story.

  9. Writing Option # 9
Lily doesn’t have any friends and spends most of her days alone in the peach stand. She isn’t allowed to read while she is there either so, she has to sit there doing nothing but sell peaches to people who walk by all day. The importance of reading is that it shows how Lily gets through her life. She loves to read, that’s what she does all the time, read. She ends up hiding her excitement while she is in class and she finds out they are reading an interesting book. Books are basically Lily’s friend, that’s what she spends her day with when she isn’t at the peach stand.
The power of writing for the Freedom Writers was very strong. They wrote to get their stories out and share their feelings. When they wrote, they wrote to make themselves better people and to get help. When Mrs. Gruwell read their stories, she knew exactly how to help them learn and become better than the places they were raised in. They were raised in gangs and gun shootings and death. Writing pretty much saved them.

  10. Lily is very shy and meek, and she has found a way to express herself. Se loves to write and read while working at T.Ray's peach stand. But T.Ray didn't approve of her reading on the job. He didn't understand Lily and the pain and regret she is feeling inside. He doesn't understand that reading and writing is one of the only ways she can express herself and be herself. "T.Ray refused to let me bring books out here to read, and if I smuggled out out, he would half kill me." This quote means that T.Ray is not arreciative of Lily and her lifestyle of bieng smart.
Anne Frank relates to Lily because of her loneliness and desire to be loved by everyone. She wanted to express herself in a way she felf comfortable with.

  11. Reading and writing are very important in this novel, especially for Lilly. Reading is so important for Lilly because it is and escapes from her hard life. In her books there is no T-Ray, and her mind is in a happier place than when she is thinking about how she took her mothers life away. When reading she also does not have to worry about what type of mood T-Ray is in and what he will do to her that night. Lilly did not have many friends and was pretty much always alone. She didn’t really talk to anyone about her feeling and really relied on herself, and her self-only. Writing was a way for Lilly to express her feelings. Lilly wanted to be a professor or a writer with actual books to her credit. Reading and writing were like Lilly’s only friends. The books were like the friends that make you smile and forget about all the bad and negative things going on around you. Books helped you find positive things to think about. Writing was more like the friend that she told all her secrets to. To Lilly writing was the friend that you could always trust and tell your feeling to with out being made fun of, the friend that always listened. Writing and reading was like and escape form the real world that made her happy. Although it made Lilly happy it did not make T-Ray happy. “He also referred to me as Miss Brown-Nose-in-a-book and occasionally Miss Emily-Big-Head-Dictionary.” T- Ray thought that reading would make Lilly think of college and continuing with school, which he thought was a waste for girls. “What kind of person is against Reading?” Lilly says. T-ray didn’t believe women were important or could become anything special in life. He didn’t want Lilly getting any ideas from books that she could become something special.
The power of reading and writing for Anne Frank was that Anne got to express all her feelings and what it was like in hiding. He diary was almost like talking to someone, since they weren’t really allowed to talk during the day. Anne’s diary talked about Peter VanDan, and how Miep would bring everybody supplies and kept them updated on what was going on around them. Anne’s diary was so important to her because with out her diary she would have no one to really express her feeling to because she really was not that close with her mother or sister and she didn’t know the VaDann's very well. While Anne wrote in her diary it was like an escape form reality. This was important while Anne was hiding because it kept her occupied, and she loved to read and express herself. Reading and writing is so important to everyone because it lets you express your feeling and usually helps make you feel better. It is almost like talking to someone.

  12. The importance of reaading and writing in the book so far is largly focased on. Lily feels very lonely and misses her mother. She also has to deal with not knowing what actually happened to her mother. She thinks that it is her fault her mother died and that iss alot to handle for a little girl. She also has to deal with T.Ray and his mean and abusive nature.
It was also important to the people in freedom writers. They had nothing and most of them were homeless. Their only resprt was to write. It was the only thing they had to look foward to. Also in Anne Frank she was locked inside a little room for years with none of her friends and everyone in the house thoght that she was immature, childish, stupid, and annoying and writing was her last resort as well.

  13. Reading and writing is a plays a vital role in Lily's life. She is always caught with a book in her hand, which her father hates. I think that makes Lily love it even a little more. She literature as an outlet; a way to escape her real life. The fact that her teachers praise her on her writing abilities giver her hope for her future. This is much like how the Freedom Writers felt. They thought they had no future, other than what was laid out in front of them. However their teacher Mrs. Gruwell gave them hope and inspired them. They were told to write in a journal about whatever they wanted. They didn't have to give them to her, but they all chose to. It allowed their story to finally be told.

  14. Lilly is an independent character who enjoys reading and writing. She often shares her thoughts and feelings through her writing. Lily is also very itellegent and hardworking. Although, T-Ray does not believe that girls should go to college and recieve a proper education. In the stroy, Anne Frank, Anne uses the power of writing to share her thoughts about the Haulacaust.

  15. Writing for some people can free what they are really feeling. Like Lily a lot of people have a lot to share but just don't know how to say it, so they share it by writing about it.
Anne Frank wrote down her feelings and day to day life in a journal because I don't think she thought she could share it with anyone else.

  16. well so far in SLOB(secret life of bees) Lily is a very talented writer and reader she uses it to pass time and want to make a career out of it. But when ever she does it T-ray yells at her and gets pissed off. So she can only do it in private.

Well in freedom writers they write about their hard times and it helps them get off the streets and go to college. In Anne Frank she does it to pass the time in the attic. In every book we read this year the main character had problems and reading and writing helped them overcome it.
